French Level 1
    Unité 12: Leçon 5a
    Des Pays
I would like to start this leçon off with by telling you a little bit more about myself. Besides teaching French, I also teach, or have had the distinct honor of teaching, a myriad of different social studies topics, including, World History/Civilizations. This fact makes me extremely well qualified to lead you into the final Leçons of this Unité: Les Pays (countries) et Les Nationalités! Before we begin, I want you to know that I would never in a million years expect you to learn the names of every, single country in the world, en français! AAAAGH! That would be mean! Since I'm such a nice guy, I've narrowed this new field of study down to about a dozen or so countries and nationalities that I believe will be the most important for you to know how to use and recognize in conversation.

We're going to begin by learning the names of our chosen countries, based on their placement in the world. Since most of the French words on the graph below look A LOT like their English counter-parts, there are translations for only those countries whose meanings might not be so easily recognizable on sight! Ready? Here we go!
